What's New With Tapestry

The 2013 Toy Store

It is hard to believe that this December marks the 5th year we have hosted the Tapestry Toy Store in partnership with Hope Chest Ministries. The vision behind the Toy Store is to give parents and grandparents an affordable way to provide Christmas gifts for their kids while keeping their dignity. It is important to us for them to have choices in what they give their kids, just like you and I have a choice. To accomplish this we collect new toys and price them at $1,2,3,5 and $7. We also try to have one free stocking stuffer and book per child. Families are allowed to shop one time and spend $15. If they don’t have any money, then they can do an hour of community service for us to earn a $15 gift certificate to shop. We understand how hard the holiday season can be for those in need. We hope to ease some of that stress by making gifts that are available to some, now affordable to many. Every year we meet parents and grandparents who are struggling to provide for their families basic needs. When they shop at the Toy Store you can see their relief. Many of them cry and tell us they had no idea what they were going to do until they came to the Toy Store.

The Toy Store will be open December 18-20 noon to 6 pm and the 21st noon to 3. The volunteer shifts are 11:45-2, 1:45-4, 3:45-6 pm. If you are interested in volunteering please email toystore@thetapestryproject.org . We need churches, businesses, and groups to partner with us and host toy drives. This is our biggest neighborhood outreach every year. We could not run a successful Toy Store without your donations and volunteering. Please consider how you can partner with us this holiday season to be a light in our community. To host a toy drive, donate toys or monetarily please reply to this post.

The Life of a Child

With the season changing I thought it might be a great time to share a little story about some changes in our home and family life. This past summer we received a call from one of our Tapestry friends that his son had been placed in a situation where he was being abused. The dad [...]

Bike Rides

This past month these bikes were donated to the youth that participate in our after school programs. These bikes are nice and we truly appreciate the gift that they were. Some of our kids are checking them out to ride them to school every morning. Kids are riding them around the neighborhood in the afternoon. [...]
