What's New With Tapestry

Ashes to Beauty

I had such a great weekend celebrating the death and resurrection of my Savior. I woke up this morning with a heart full of love and admiration. Over the past few weeks I have been deep into the words of Isaiah.
1-7 The Spirit of God, the Master, is on me because God anointed me.He sent me to preach good news to the poor, heal the heartbroken,Announce freedom to all captives, pardon all prisoners.God sent me to announce the year of his grace— a celebration of God’s destruction of our enemies— and to comfort all who mourn,To care for the needs of all who mourn in Zion, give them bouquets of roses instead of ashes,Messages of joy instead of news of doom, a praising heart instead of a languid spirit.Rename them “Oaks of Righteousness” planted by God to display his glory. They’ll rebuild the old ruins, raise a new city out of the wreckage. They’ll start over on the ruined cities, take the rubble left behind and make it new.
These words are so life giving. Sometimes we do need to stop and remember that Jesus came to make everything NEW! So recently at our Mercy Out reach night I filled a vase with ash and one with roses. We talked that night about how God takes our ash and makes something completely beautiful out of it. I have spent the last few weeks sitting on that image and here are a few pictures of what He has shown me out of the depths of my own life.

The Transformation that has taken place in my life is like a rare jewel. I will never ceased to be amazed by His goodness and grace. Above I was doing “time” for getting high at school. Below I am preparing to marry the most amazing man on the planet and together we would begin a journey that has been revolutionary.

The mission: most of you may remember a post a while back regarding the apt complex my husband purchased. Several months later we are embracing a call to make the community livable again. I cannot describe how blessed we are to get to be a part of this project. We have named it The Tapestry Project. A desire to weave together the resources in our city. I have a sketch book full of the dreams for this community development project that are being compelled by the Love of God.

Each one of these apartments are being filled by those in need. We are engaging the community through outreaches and resource mobilization. Our desire is to love the neighbors, mobilize resources that they may need, push out the drug dealers, push back the gangs that destroy young lives, feed the hungry, create accountability, reach the latch key kids, establish leadership within the community church, offer temporary and permanent solutions to the problems that these families face. Remove the gentleman’s club:) Bottom line: Push back darkness and Advance His kingdom.

Ashes to Beauty.
